Deepika is the elder daughter of Prakash Padukone, who was a former top world level badminton player and Ujjala Padukone, who is a travel agent. She has a younger sister Anisha, who is a golfer and ranks ninth in the country in the sport. Deepika is the grand-daughter of Ramesh Padukone, who was the Secretary of the Mysore Badminton Association for many years.
