Bollywood Profile of Naseeruddin Shah

Naseeruddin Shah

Other names: Nasiruddin Shah
Date of Birth: 20 July 1950
Height: 5'10" or 1.78 m
City: Delhi
Country: India
Children: daughter Heeba Manara Shah
Marital status: married
Spouse: Ratna Pathak
Education: National School of Drama in Delhi, Film and Television Institute of India
Occupation: bollywood actor/director
Debut Film: Nishaant

Shah showed interest in an acting career from his childhood. He graduated from the National School of Drama in 1973 and enrolled in the Film and Television Institute of India the same year.

After watching Geoffrey Kendall's theatre group, Shakespeareana perform at his school, Naseeruddin Shah was very impressed with the art of acting. He joined the Pune Film Institute and in 1975, Shyam Benegal offered him 'Nishaant'. His debut film was followed by several supporting roles in Shyam Benegal's films. His major break through came with 'Junoon' in 1979 where he played the character of a hotheaded revolutionary and with 'Aakrosh' as the activist lawyer. His subsequent films, 'Masoom', 'Khandhan', 'Paar', 'Katha', `Sparsh` and 'Pestonjee' established him as an actor par excellence.

However his stint with commercial cinema in films like 'Tridev', 'Mohra', and 'Najayaz' did not make much demand on his talent. And today, Naseeruddin Shah is busy doing theatre and also teaching at acting workshops. His recent performance in `Sarfarosh` as a muslim with divided loyality has come in for a lot of praise.

His wife Ratna Pathak Shah and daughter Heeba Manara Shah have also graduated from the National School of Drama (1981 and 1999 batches respectively).

He retained his Muslim name and did not adapt a Hindu screen name (which was done by some popular actors, most notably Dilip Kumar) owing to a promise he made his father [citation needed].

Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah , brother of Naseeruddin Shah was appointed the Deputy Chief of Army Staff , Indian Army on Oct 1st 2006.

Bollywood profile of Raj Babbar

A stage artiste in Delhi, Raj Babbar was 'discovered' by Prakash Mehra and was even signed for 'Namak Halal', and later, for `Shakti', but was dropped at the last moment. It was left to B R Chopra to introduce Raj Babbar in a totally negative but very noteworthy role in 'Insaaf Ka Tarazu' (1980). Babbar, however, did not remain confined to negative characters and played a variety of roles in films like 'Nikaah' (1982), 'Mazdoor', 'Naukar Biwi Ka' (1983)and 'Aaj ki Awaaz' (1984), besides nondescript films like 'Poonam' and 'Prem Geet' (1981).

He fell in love with Smita Patil during 'Bheegi Palkein' (1982) and they did several films together: 'Kanoon Meri Muthi Mein', 'Pet, Pyar aur Paap' and 'Shapath' (1984), 'Hum Do, Hamare Do', 'Jawaab' and 'Mera Ghar, Mere Bache' (1985), 'Teesra Kinara' (1986) and 'Waaris', which was released two years after her death.

Babbar's other films include 'Salma' (1985), 'Jhoothi' (1986) and 'Sansar' (1987). The Babbars also produced 'Karamyodha' (1992).

He married Nadira Babbar and also late Smita Patil. Arya Babbar and Juhi Babbar are two children from Nadira Babbar. After the birth of Smita's son Prateek Babbar, she died after few days. After her death Raj Babbar patched up with his first wife Nadira Babbar. Although Prateek Babbar lives with the family of Raj Babbar's in-laws. Raj Babbar was also linked with Rekha soon after the death of Smita Patil.

He joined Samajwadi Party and got himself involved in politics and became Member of Parliament of India for three times. Currently M.P. (Lok Sabha) from Agra. Due to some controversies with Amar Singh, Babbar got suspended from Samajwadi Party eventually losing to Amar Singh. Raj Babbar emphasized "socialism" the basis of formation of Samajwadi Party, however Amar Singh has star power which brings lot of influence and money-power which is critical for survival in the political system of India. Later he joined with former Prime Minister of India V. P. Singh who functions under an outfit names as Jan Morcha.

Bollywood Profile of Akshaye khanna

5' 11" tall, Akshaye Khanna was born on March 30, 1975 to the most popular bollywood actor of that time, Vinod Khanna and Geetanjali. He inherits his fabulous looks and acting skills from his father Vinod Khanna. Like most star sons, Askhaye Khanna too was launched by his father Vinod Khanna. And as often happens, the home production 'Himalayputra' was rejected by the audience despite a high-powered publicity campaign. But the star sons have an advantage. They have an identity, contacts and producers willing to give a second (and third) chance. Besides, following papa's policy of playing safe, Akshaye had already signed up for several films.
J.P.Dutta's blockbuster 'Border' wiped out the taste of failures like 'Mohabbat' , where he simply did not suit Madhuri Dixit, once his own father's leading lady.
Rajkumar Santoshi's 'Doli Saja Ke Rakhna', in which he was paired with Naghma's sister Jyotika and 'Kudrat' both flopped. Rishi Kapoor's 'Aa Ab Laut Chalen' somewhat undid the damage, and has again placed him among the winning horses. Akshaye reminds you of his father Vinod Khanna at his zenith, when he quit films and took sanayas.
Seeing that the sons of boozers turn out to be teetotallers, Akshaye is the least likely candidate to find escape in sanyas. His recent releases, 'Laawaris' ( with Jackie, Dimple and Manisha) and 'Dehak' ( with Sonali Bendre) too have not done well. 'Love You Hamesha', 'Agar Tum Na Hote' and 'Deewana Tere Naam Ka' besides several proposals on the table are his under production films. Vinod Khanna's son is more busy than papa was at the same stage. But unlike his father, who saw the tide turning in his favour within months of his debut, Akshaye is still trying to find his feet. Worse, his thinning pate is worrying his producers.
Every journalist in town clamoured to interview the young Khanna who sported a charming smile and cute dimples that turned girls dizzy. But while the world was eager to read about him, Akshay wasn't in any mood to face frivolous questions about the films he'd signed, or his relationship with his father and brother Rahul, or then his views on life in general.
He rejected a couple of seemingly important films including Deepa Mehta's '1947-Earth' (1999). The part eventually went to elder brother Rahul Khanna.
Finally, there came a ray of hope in the form of Rishi Kapoor's 'Aa Ab Laut Chalein' (1999). The film proved to be a modest success and everyone praised Akshaye yet again, although it was Aishwarya Rai who hogged the show for most part.
But even Subhash Ghai's 'Taal' (1999), Akshaye's most prestigious assignment since 'Border', couldn't revive his floundering career. Instead, the film's second hero, Anil Kapoor, repositioned himself as a character actor and wowed audiences with his new image. Taal was a hit and the guy is coming back in a interesting film where he plays an artiste in love with a much older woman.
He used to date Riya Sen.
In 1998, Khanna won the Filmfare Best Debut Award for his role in Border. In 2002, Khanna won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor, for his role in Dil Chahta Hai.
