Bollywood Profile of

No one in ordinary list expect the past of an upcoming actor but they will be eager to know how the actor will perform in his future acting career. Same as in the life of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, who came on screen tied in the misty of anonymity. He felt little bit embarrassing and was also laughed by others because of his tall and gawky structures. Mr. Bachchan was also known as ‘LAMBOO’. Though after not getting chance in both the fields of world, he didn’t give up his hope and effort of trying and that was the day of grateful for the entire Film Industry. He was also rejected from the All India Radio (AIR) as a announcer because his voice and the of speaking style was not as much effective as needed in AIR. He was turned down from the job of junior executive in Soap and Consumer Ltd in Delhi. After this incident he joined the Young Hopefuls in trams; wearing the same dress of anonymous executives in Calcutta. He also worked as a shipping agent for a short period of time and left out because of the continuous habits of drinking beer and doing not anything much made him to quit his job there. He had slept one night at the Marine Drive Beach, as had no wear to go and top of that he was unemployed too. As a fresher in the Film Industry, Amitji was made to wait on the sets for long hours of time and was ignored without any encouragement. Though Amitabh Bachchan has a good family background, then too he never used out any of his family helps but took inspirations. No one dare to think that the new-walker into the film industry with extra long legs soon became the Backbone of the film Industry that would sort-out the entire group of the Co-stars.

Director K. A. Abbas launched him in the film Saat Hindustani that went unnoticed by any one in the film Industry. But Prakash Mehra signed him for Zanjeer, which proved lucky for him and also worked out as an extraordinarily well for the young star and after that he never looked back. This versatile actor had also done play backing in most of his films. He also met with a serious accident on the movie sets of Coolie. This accident had also proved that he doesn’t have his fans in hundreds but in lakhs, the entire nation had prayed for his health and the prayers turned into a blessing for Amitji and as he returned to the scene with double the impact. It was Romantic moment for Amitji and his love at first sight for Jaya Bhaduri the famous Guddi girl who turned into Jaya Bachchan. He had a great Family and an excellent career which helped ‘Big B’ in establishing his company ABCL which helped a lot in releasing many controversial films like Mani Ratnam's Bombay and Shekhar Kapoor's Bandit Queen and Joy Augustine's Tere Mere Sapne and Sachin's Naam Kya Hai Commercial film's which was produced under the same banner. Among this he had some of the albums like Eer Bhir Phatte and Kabhi Kabhi, which was released by ABCL Company.

LIFE AS IN POLITICS

Amitji had retired from the Bollywood Acting world for a period of time. He then tried his luck in Politics. His enormous popularity brought him in a close relation with Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. He was also elected to parliament with a huge majority from his homeland city, Allahabad. But his position in politics did not last long and was not very effective as his colleague was implicated with some scandals. He lost his hope and gave up his seat in parliament, deciding never to get involved in political affairs again. And then he made a comeback to the commercial world of cinema but he failed to have the impact, which he had in previous years. However, he continued with his extraordinary public presence in India cinema. With the help of Satyajit Roy, Amitji started providing narration for films and cultural programs too. And such he owned his own ABCL Company, which was represented as AMITABH BACHCHAN CO-CORPORATION LIMITED. This company heads an entertainment company or a sponsor company, which became a principal sponsor of the Miss Universe Contest in 1996, held in Bangalore.

AWARDS AND HONOURS

Amitabh Bachchan was voted for continuous two years in the category of hottest male by PETA. He was also awarded as the Superstar of the Millennium replacing Sir Lawrence Olivier and Charlie Chaplin on a BBC Online Poll. Mr. Bachchan had achieved the National Award three times. He received a New-Comer Award in 1970s for his debut film Saat Hindustani and then for Agneepath in 1991 and then finally for Black in 2006 in the category of Best Actor. In between he was awarded many of the Critics Awards and 14th times in Filmfare Awards in various categories. Mr. Bachchan had been honoured the PADMA SHRI Award in 1983 and the PADMA BHUSHAN Award in 2005 from the government for his tremendous efforts during his lifetime. Recently in the Filmfare Awards of the year 2006, he was awarded as the Best Actor for the film Black. His most recognizable and remember able Film fare Award he feels was when he was awarded the Star of the 20th Century Award in which he and Dilip Kumar were only the one stars who had won the Best Actor awards in three separate decades. Mr. Bachchan is the only the Bollywood Actor, whose name is listed and dominated by Hollywood Actors. He is only the first Bollywood Actor, whose immortalized has been potrayed in wax at Madame Tussands Wax Museum in London. In recognition of his distinguished career in films he is been conferred with an honorary and valuable Degree of Doctorate of Arts on July 19, 2006 from De Mont Fort University in Leicester, U.K.

Bollywood Profile of SHARMILA TAGORE

Sharmila Tagore is a renowned Indian film actress from Bengal, who as of April 2005 heads the Indian Film Censor Board. In December 2005 she was chosen as an UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

She began her Hindi film career with Shammi Kapoor in 'Kashmir Ki Kali' and 'An Evening In Paris'. Although she was too young for a film career (she was barely thirteen), her freshness and ebullience made her a selling proposition. "Acting happened too early in life," she recalls. "In fact, 'Apur Sansar', my first film and then 'Devi', were supposed to be my only films. I worked in them during my school holidays."

Being Satyajit Ray's discovery in 'Apur Sansar' gave Sharmila a distinction from the onset. In their second film together, 'Devi', her portrayal of a teenage wife whose father-in-law believes her to be the reincarnation of Kali, moved America's most respected film critic, Pauline Kael to remark, "… she is exquisite, perfect ".

"But because of my early success with these films and because I was inundated with offers from with Shakti Samanta and Sachin Bhowmick who were known to my parents, I succumbed. So my career in films was a kind of chance with pressure, mingled with curiosity. But it was never meant to be a long-term goal. And when 'Kashmir Ki Kali' happened, it was suppose to be my only film in Bombay and I was going to get back to Calcutta. But films kind of kept happening and the acting bug slowly got hold of me." Although her initial films didn't give her much scope to prove her potential as an actress, she made an indelible mark in the minds of the audience with her performances. And with films like 'Aradhana', which charted the growth of her character from a young girl to an old woman, her career changed soon afterwards. Likewise, in a series of Rajesh Khanna hits like 'Daag', 'Amar Prem' and 'Safar', she was established as a star.

However, she continued to work with Ray, in films like 'Nayak', (where she surprised everybody by wearing spectacles throughout the film), 'Aranyer Din Ratri' and 'Seemabaddha'. "Looking back, I realise I was very different from the other actresses of my time. My behaviour was grossly misinterpreted. I felt I was making mistakes all the time. I'd wear clothes that were not suitable. Everybody would be wearing a sari and I'd turn up in jeans. I was also accused of being snooty and arrogant, which I was not. I didn't know that one was expected to lead a certain lifestyle."

However, her marriage to the former Indian cricket captain, Mansoor Ali Khan, the Nawab of Pataudi, has been one of the most successful ones in the industry, so much so that her best performances have been with the support of her husband. "Tiger was totally supportive. People were hundred percent convinced that our marriage would not last. But we have proved all of them wrong."

Then Rekha again made her world with Vinod Mehra a Bollywood actor and later they were divorced. In her first films in the early 70s she was plumpy and looking obese. In Hindi Cinema she was paired with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan as the famous and well-known couple and also has made total nine films as a heroine opposite him. The entire film industry had a great shock in early 80s when Rekha’s secret affair was crook out with the Big-B (Amitabh Bachchan) that was already paired with Jaya Bhaduri. Accordingly enough, the all three of them was later starred in the movie Silsila (’81) that indicate the topic of married man in love with a woman other than wife.

This was almost the last film of Rekha with Amitabh Bachchan being together. She is also named as Madonna and Cher of Bollywood industry due to her constant recovering throughout her career. She won the icon status in Bollywood industry for her four-decade career in Indian Cinema. Rekha was acted as a lead in Market (’03) when she was considered as the teacher of Kama Sutra in the controversial movie Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (’96), several people at that time thought that this would be the finishing point of her career. Bollywood Profile of RAKHEE

Raakhee Gulzar was born on August 15, 1947 in India, also known as Raakhee or Rakhi, is an Indian Bollywood actress originally from the state of West Bengal . Raakhee Gulzar's career spans from the 1970s to the present.

Raakhee, besides Moushumi Chatterji, was another married Bengali actress to make it in Hindi films. However, it was not easy. She was married to Ajoy Biswas, a journalist and director. After a screen test, she was not selected even for the film he was directing (Sambandh). Rajshri Films gave her the first break opposite Dharmendra in `Jeevan Mrityu` (1970). The film was a hit and a career began.

While still a teenager, Raakhee had a very brief unhappy marriage to Bengali film director Ajay Biswas.

She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2003. She has a daughter called Meghna (Bosky) who had directed a film named Filhaal starring Sushmita Sen, Tabu, Sanjay Suri and Palaash Sen.

Her haunting beauty and talent (`Daag`) win her several admirers. At the peak of her career she married once again. The man was Gulzar. Unfortunately, this marriage too didn't work out. While the couple didn't divorce, they separated. Raakhee made a comeback to films and followed several silver jubilee hits Tapasya and Kabhie Kabhie (1975), Trishul and Muqqadar Ka Sikander (1978), Kaala Patthar (1979) and Laawaris 1981).

Interestingly, both her husbands were romantically involved with Meena Kumari. A Meena Kumari hang-up has always been visible in Raakhee. This turned her into an alcoholic and also aged her faster. But, like Meena Kumari, her strong point was an expressive face and an equally animated dialogue delivery, which helped her make her presence felt. Unlike most of her contemporaries who faded away or cribbed for not getting meaty roles, Raakhee happily accepted mother roles. She even agreed to play mother to Amitabh, once her romantic lead, in `Shakti` and continued playing mother roles in several films.

The films include `Ram Lakhan` (1989), `Khalnayak` (1993) and `Karan Arjun` (1995) where she has played mother to Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

The intensity with which she once projected her love was transferred to strength to becoming an avenging angel in `Karan Arjun` and several other films.

Raakhee loves to cook fish curry and every member has tasted it at least once.

Bollywood Profile of TANUJA

Tanuja was born in Mumbai into a family of four children as Tanuja Samarth to poet Kumarsen Samarth and his wife Shobhna Samarth. Her mother was a famous 1930s and 1940s actress. When she was very young her parents separated. Tanuja entered films as a child actress and continued working until 1973. She met director Shomu Mukherjee on the set of Ek Baar Muskara Do. A whirlwind romance ended in a 1973 marriage. They had two children: Kajol Mukherjee (b. 1975) and Tanisha Mukherjee (b. 1978). They were later divorced.

The younger sister of Nutan and one of the daughters of '40s actress Shobhana Samarth, Tanuja was known for her tomboyish behaviour on the sets, and a rebel image. Unlike most heroines, she refused to play games and chase after roles. If inspite of that, she was successful, only due to her talent. Her films included 'Jeene ki Raah', 'Jeeo aur Jeene Do', 'Do Chor', 'Mome ki Gudiya', 'Mere Jeevan Saathi', 'Humshakal', 'Imitihan' and the most successful of them all, 'Haathi Mere Saathi'.

She was among the rare heroines who smoked but did not hide the ever-burning cigarette in her hand, and never disguised her whiskey in a bottle of Coca Cola, like most heroines of '60s did. Tanu had acquired this boldness from her grandmother who was as open about her relationship with Motilal. This openness did cause her heartbreaks but she finally settled down in marriage with Shomu Mukherjee. The marriage was certainly stormy and when she played the wife of a busy journalist in 'Anubhav' there were comparisons. Tanuja happily shifted to character roles. Her daughter Kajol, the third generation of actress, continues the tradition.

Feroz Khan is famous for his styles and dressings. He made his entry on the silver screen in 1960 after his return from a Bangalore-based English medium school. His career initially started as a hero in 'Didi', then he signed up for villain roles, and then made a comeback as a hero again.

Feroz Khan noteworthy movies are Oonche Log, Main Wohi Hoon, Aag, Mela, Upasna, Aprsdh. He became even more popular after the release of Dharmatma, Qurbani, Jaanbaaz, & Dayavan. Feroz Khan got an award for his role in Aadmi Aur Insaan.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he was the top Bollywood star in films and often directed and starred in many of his films. The movie Qurbani was the biggest hit of his career and also launched the singing career of Nazia Hassan. In 1988 he directed and starred in Dayavan which was a remake of a South Indian film Nayagan which starred Kamal Hassan. After he directed and starred in Yalgaar, he took a long break from acting for 11 years and took to producing, directing and even editing a few films. Feroz Khan launched his son Fardeen Khan's career with the 1998 film Prem Aggan which was however a box office failure. Feroz Khan made a comeback to acting with his most recently produced and directed film Janasheen which also starred his son Fardeen Khan and had Feroz make his first film appearance in 11 years. He starred with his son again in Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena which was not however directed by him.

Sai Baba is revered and worshiped by Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and Hindus in India.

Despite objections raised by an Islamic Moulvi, Feroz and Sanjay got their children married to non-Islamic families. Laila was married to Rajpal, while Fardeen married Natasha Madhwani, the daughter of Mayur and former Bollywood hottie Mumtaz. Sundari and Feroz have been divorced since 1985.

Feroz has kept away from controversies, though he did get himself banned by the conservative Pakistani government.

Monday Apr 27, 2009 at 1:30am. Feroz Khan at the age of 70, lost his battle with cancer and passed away at his farmhouse in Bangalore. It was his wish to take his last breath in the city where he had born.

Bollywood profile of NEETU SINGH

Neetu Singh was born on July 8, 1958. She worked as a child actor under the name Baby Sonia and successfully made the transition to leading roles. Baby Sonia was the rare child star to play a double rolein 'Do Kaliyan'. She brought tears to the eyes of women audiences when she mouthed long entreaties to reunite her estranged parents. She did several films as a child star and then went into hibernation, to emerge as the sexy, grown-up Neetu Singh. Neetu Singh grew up under the footlights of Bollywood. In most of the films she appeared Neetu was cast as the fun-loving daughter or the 'optimistic' or 'lively' girlfriend. She was buxom. She danced with and cajoled all the top young stars of her day, especially Rishi Kapoor with whom she appeared in half a dozen films.

On film and off Neetu and Rishi Kapoor romanced each other. This romance led to the nuptials of the couple, when in 1979 after a much publicized engagement that was the talk of Bollywood, they were married. Neetu was 21 at that time. Shortly after, at the top of her popularity Neetu Singh retired. At that time it was customary for actress to retire after marriage and Neetu left films.

For her second innings as an adult, glossy, revealing pictures of Neetu were circulated among the film-makers. Raj Kapoor, who was later to become her father-in-law, was the first to fall for her ample cleavage displayed in her photographs and signed her for 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' which he was planning with Rishi Kapoor. Unsure of himself after the failure of 'Mera Naam Joker', RK shelved this film and started 'Bobby', where he preferred Dimple Kapadia over Neetu. Neetu, in fact, made her adult debut opposite Randhir Kapoor in 'Rickshawala'. Though she paired with all the top stars including Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh, Shashi Kapoor and Jeetendra it was with Rishi Kapoor that Neetu made a hit romantic pair ('Rafoo Chakar' 'Khel Khel Mein', 'Doosra Aadmi', 'Amar Akbar Anthony' and 'Kabhi Kabhie').

Child actresses-turned-heroines usually do not have a fascination for fame, get weary and try to settle down. After an initial opposition from Raj Kapoor, who did not want an actress bahu, Neetu and Rishi Kapoor finally tied the knot. They have two children; daughter Riddhima and son Ranbir. Riddhima their daughter is a fashion designer and recently married to a Delhi based industrialist called Bharat Sawhney. Their son Ranbir Kapoor is an upcoming film actor.

Jaya Bachchan has returned to the Upper House as MP of Samajwadi Party in July 2006. Her re-entry into parliament was a great photo op for the journalists when her husband Amitabh Bachchan accompanied her to the swearing in ceremony.

Bollywood profile of SANJEEV KUMAR

Haribhai Jariwala, a lower middle-class Gujarati family living in Surat, was once a theatre actor who struggled to find a footing in the film industry. A stint in film school took him to bollywood, where he eventually became a star. He is known as one of the finest actors of all time. He accepted bit roles and even did C-grade stunt films 'Chanda aur Bijli' before going on to become a towering performer. Interestingly, Sanjeev had earlier failed in a screen test for a Rajshree film. While he always smiled at the mention of that rejection, Sanjeev seems to have silently left his mark even in stunt films.

Sanjeev Kumar talent and professionalism were recognised and he graduated to be pitted opposite the spian Dilip Kumar in 'Sunghursh' , where he confronted the senior actor unflinchingly and won the day. Sanjeev Kumar performance as a mentally unbalanced dejected lover in 'Khilona' came in for lot of praise as he projected lunacy with his eyes and unkempt looks, caring more for authenticity than appearance. In 'Koshish' , he played a deaf-mute starring opposite Jaya Bhaduri.

With Jaya, he gave some of his best performances and interestingly, played her lover 'Anamika', father 'Parichay', father in law 'Sholay' and husband 'Silsila', breaking all the known conventions in Hindi films. "I would love to play her son. This would complete the picture," Sanjeev had said.

Though he could not do that, Sanjeev excelled by acting nine different characters in one film, 'Naya Din Nayee Raat', blending the make-up and get-ups with his personal make-up man, Sarosh Modi and his own creativity. Unhappy and dejected in love, in his private life, Sanjeev tried drowning his loneliness in alcohol.
